Disability Sensitisation in the Workplace

Program Outcomes

The program assists organisations:

  • Provide a conducive workplace environment for persons with disabilities
  • Remove barriers and provide better access, retention and advancement of employees with disabilities
  • Increase employee confidence when interacting with colleagues and customers with disabilities
  • Meet Employment Equity targets by increased employee disability status disclosure. 

What is included?

The full program includes 4 components:

    1. Diagnostic Surveys to help gain insight into current practices and attitudes towards disability inclusion in an organisation.
    2. Customised training. The full training course is accredited by the SABPP, offering 12 CPD points.
    3. Policy Consulting and guidance on inclusive policies that foster a supportive and accessible work environment.
    4. Environmental Surveys to assess the accessibility of the workplace and ensure inclusivity across all areas of operations.

The program is run by Dr Kedibone Seutloadi from Diabalwa Professional Services.

Training Course

Training is tailored to suit different employee job levels from general workers to the executive.

The full course includes 8 modules:

  • Defining and understanding disability
  • Constitutional, policy & regulatory framework
  • Discrimination and stereotypes in the workplace
  • Appropriate etiquette
  • Appropriate & inappropriate language/terminology
  • Reasonable accommodation support measures 
  • Recruitment, retention and progression 
  • Disability status disclosure & confidentiality

In April 2025 the new BEE targets for South African businesses were gazetted. The target for persons with disabilities increased to 3% for all sectors and employers are expected to include the new targets in their Employment Equity plans and reports from September 2025.

Use the program to help your organisation build an inclusive workforce. An inclusive workforce enables diverse ideas and creativity, which improves performance, processes and productivity. Diversity, equity and inclusion of persons with disabilities is a responsibility of all organisations and essential for an economy to thrive.

The online aspects of the program use the VirtualAssessor platform to provide surveys, content, assessments, track progress, email certificates and generate management reports.
